Sustainable development of territories

Nornickel established three territorial development agencies: in Norilsk, Monchegorsk, and Pechenga district. The agencies help achieve three goals: make the regions less dependent on town-forming companies, make northern cities more attractive for residents and visitors, and recruit new talent for the company’s plants. The agencies’ accomplishments and plans are outlined in the report “Regions and Cities of Russia: Sustainable Development and Social and Environmental Priorities in Management – 2023.”
The report was prepared by the infragreen platform with the support of Nornickel, Sberbank, Rusal, Dom.rf, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Ugra, and the National Museum of Decorative Arts.

IRINA ZHUIKOVA,
Nornickel Director for Social Policy:

“By creating the agencies, we aimed to reduce the territories’ dependence on town-forming companies, rethink our corporate charitable policy and social investment policy. We conducted a survey in which more than 8,000 residents from 7 cities participated. They answered 360 questions and made 33,000 suggestions.

Based on the survey, we identified five areas that will lay the foundation for sustainable development of the territories:

  1. Urban environment — a good city to live;
  2. Business — a region with a developed service economy;
  3. Investment – a good city to invest in;
  4. A city with a thriving cultural and social life;
  5. A city with good tourism infrastructure."
