Where we are, there is development!

Nornickel has been hailed as one of Russia’s 14 largest industrial company contributors to development of territories where they operate.
The Center for Social Design “Platform” studied the impact of businesses on urban development. Experts analyzed employee and manager surveys and statistics.

The list of the biggest contributors to territory development includes 14 companies:

  • Gazprom Neft;
  • Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works;
  • Nornickel;
  • United Metallurgical Company;
  • Rosatom;
  • RUSAL;
  • Severstal;
  • SIBUR;
  • TatNeft;
  • Uralskaya Stal;
  • Russian Copper Company;
  • Shchekinoazot;
  • PhosAgro;
  • NLMK.

Nornickel has been implementing the Norilsk-2035 project. The city, with a population of 174,000, is the gateway to the Arctic; Nornickel accounts for 68% of all investment in Norilsk. The funds are directed towards reducing harmful emissions, land reclamation, demolition of dangerous facilities, construction of quality housing and sports and leisure facilities.

Nornickel is also investing in education in the regions where it has operations. The Polar State University plans to use the funding provided by the company to recruit top professors and double the number of students. The goal is to nurture talent who will stay in the region and contribute to regional development and improvement.

The company is also making efforts to attract tourists to the regions where it operates.

By 2035, the number of visitors seeking to admire the majestic scenery of the Arctic, in Taymyr only, is expected to jump five fold 50,000 individuals per year. This demand will create a need for hundreds of new jobs.
