Reducing toxic emissions

Sulfur dioxide is the main pollutant associated with Nornickel’s metal products manufacturing facilities. In order to convert sulfur dioxide into sulfuric acid, one more plant has to be built next to each smelter in Norilsk. Acid is subsequently converted into gypsum. After Nornickel’s Kola division completed the project, sulfur dioxide emissions dropped by 90% in the factory area. We plan to achieve the same result for the Nadezhda Smelter in Norilsk.
