2024 ESG survey doubles coverage of Nornickel suppliers

2024 Sustainability Survey of Nornickel’s Suppliers of Goods, Work and Services
Expanding the scope of sustainability surveys taken, since 2023, by suppliers of goods, work and services is an essential step in the implementation of the Nornickel Supplier Code of Conduct.
Since 2021, Nornickel has been conducting comprehensive audits of mineral raw material suppliers. These audits and surveys allow the company to determine whether its suppliers' operations are in line with the corporate sustainability standards, which are based on the Supplier Code of Conduct.

Survey scope

In 2023, a sample of suppliers representing roughly 14% of all purchases by the Russian companies in the Nornickel group participated in the survey. In 2024, the scope more than doubled, with 48% of the suppliers in the larger sample being in compliance with the survey requirements.

Private companies make up over 85% of suppliers taking part in the 2024 survey. Stakeholders' non-financial disclosure requirements are less stringent than those for public companies.

EVGENIA PINEGINA,
head of responsible supply chain projects

“Nornickel’s responsible supply chain system is a “live” system that is based on the Supplier Code of Conduct. In 2024, in addition to increasing the supplier sample size, we also revised the questionnaire. We added more questions, took into account the findings of the previous survey and supplier feedback, and made revisions to reflect changes in regulatory recommendations and rating agency expectations.”

Nornickel’s strategy helps more businesses engage with sustainability issues as the company's suppliers begin to integrate ESG principles into their operations, exerting influence on the industry as a whole.

Every year, Nornickel publishes the Responsible Supply Chain Report, which details the company’s approach to managing responsible supply chains and its performance in this area.
