The automatic air quality monitoring system launched in the Norilsk Industrial District

The system provides almost a real-time assessment of pollution levels: the data is updated every 20 minutes. It is one of the first projects of this kind in Russia.

Everyone can see the air quality index, which the system calculates based on maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants, on the website Norilsk.rf. Green means no contamination, yellow means moderate contamination, and red means high contamination.

The system processes data from 16 environment monitoring stations. Stations were installed in Norilsk, Talnakh, and Kayerkan.

The instruments measure the level of sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, carbonic oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and dust in the air. The equipment at the stations also measures air temperature, pressure, and humidity.

On December 25, 2024, a ceremony to launch the system was held at the company's operational center in Norilsk. The system was handed over to the Norilsk Administration.
