CSKA basketball team players on a tour of the Oktyabrsky mine
On June 11, 2024, at the invitation of Nornickel, the players and the head coach of the CSKA basketball team flew to Norilsk. The “Army men” experienced the operations of the Komsomolsky and Oktyabrsky mines, visited the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant and the facilities of the Sulfur Project.
Professional athletes held master classes for young basketball players. Head coach Dimitris Itoudis and his assistants worked on the basketball strategy with local specialists.
The highlight event of the visit was the match with the team of the Norilsk division. Nikolay Utkin, Nornickel Senior Vice President, joined the game. Both teams enjoyed the game.
The CSKA team has not been to Norilsk for 16 years, and a lot has changed in the city during that time. "A new super-arena "Aika" has been built, the city has become better and more beautiful. One thing remains unchanged – how fans in this northern city cheer and emotionally involve themselves with CSKA," says Andrey Vatutin, president of the CSKA club.
More sports facilities in the city are yet to come, says Nikolay. As part of the housing renovation program in Norilsk, the construction of many more sports facilities is planned by 2035.
