Preserving traditions for future generations
On Reindeer Herder's Day—the Far North's signature holiday—Nornickel extended greetings to Taimyr residents. This celebration preserves cultural heritage, embodying the enduring human-Arctic bond and generational continuity.
Since 2020, Nornickel has rolled out a five-year, 2-billion-ruble program supporting northern indigenous minorities. Key scientific research under the initiative confirmed revival potential for reindeer herding and fishing, enabling higher fishing quotas.
Nornickel's infrastructure and social investments deliver real change: 21 apartments for orphaned indigenous children in Dudinka, 33 new homes in remote villages, fresh paramedic-obstetric centers, and a rural House of Culture in the village of Nosok. In education and culture, the company has equipped 11 schools with internet learning, backs over 40 social projects, and continues building rural Houses of Culture.
A key focus is bolstering human capital and traditional economies. Nornickel funds education for 73 indigenous students and allocates 100 million rubles yearly to communities for traditional activities—driving Taimyr's socio-economic growth while safeguarding unique cultures and crafts of the indigenous peoples.
