Nornickel is implementing automated safety monitoring systems at their sites. They are used in the most hazardous process operations, when there is no guarantee that training or the person’s awareness will prevent an emergency.
STANISLAV SELEZNEV,
Nornickel Vice President for HSE:
“In the Murmansk Transport Branch, two cranes are equipped with positioning lasers showing safe load placement on the ground, depending on its height and size. If a person enters this area, the siren turns on in the crane and it stops working.
Another example is a buffer zone between the worker and conveyor. The laser draws a line near the conveyor, a person wears a tracking bracelet and a 3D model of the room is built. The second a person crosses the line, the conveyor stops.
Several pilot machines operating underground in poor lighting conditions are equipped with an anti-collision system. They stop automatically when approaching a person”.
